- Long-term residential exposure to traffic and industrial pollutants is associated with increased risk of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS).
- Each standard deviation increase in nitrogen dioxide (NO2), benzene, and lead levels significantly raised CRS odds: NO2 by 132% (aOR 2.32), benzene by 115% (aOR 2.15), and lead by 248% (aOR 3.48).
- Pollutant exposure is linked to distinct cytokine profiles: NO2 with elevated type 2 cytokines (IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, TNF-α), benzene with suppressed IL-1 receptor agonist, and lead with elevated IL 8 and IL-1 receptor agonist.
