Qantas plans to launch the world's longest direct flight between London and Sydney in October next year, lasting up to 22 hours.
The specially-modified Airbus A350-1000ULR will carry only 238 passengers, with 140 in economy class, offering more leg room and a Wellbeing Zone.
Economy passengers can currently fly direct from London to Perth with Qantas, but the new route will be the longest direct flight for economy travelers.
Tickets for the direct flights will go on sale in February and will be more expensive than flights with a stop in Singapore, but save up to four hours of travel time.
Business class direct is seen as a good option for uninterrupted sleep, but some prefer shorter flights in economy due to potential discomforts like noisy neighbors or limited space.
The aircraft's smaller configuration aims to enhance comfort and compensate for extra fuel, with profitability relying on premium passengers rather than cargo.
Qantas's next ultralong-haul direct service will be Sydney-New York, covering a distance of 16,013 kilometers.
