- A refined single-cell profiling study identified a CCR5high CD4+ cytotoxic T-cell precursor within Th17.1 cells that is enriched in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients.
- The CCR5high Th17.1 cluster was selectively reduced in blood after natalizumab treatment and exhibited a pre-cytotoxic state, upregulating cytolytic proteins in response to IL-12, with secretion requiring both IL-12 and IL-18.
- This MS-associated cluster shows enhanced brain-homing and cytotoxic potential, suggesting it as a promising target for monitoring disease-relevant immune changes and advancing precision medicine in MS.
