- The study evaluates the impact of Chile's Food Labelling and Advertising Law (FLAL) on excess weight in children aged 4-6.
- Using a cohort difference-in-differences approach with data from 2012-2017, it found that exposure to FLAL's phase 1 led to significant reductions in excess weight probability.
- Children exposed during both kindergarten and first grade (18 months) showed the largest effects: girls had a 2.85% lower probability, and boys had a 2.40% lower probability.
- Significant reductions were also observed after 6 months of exposure in first grade only: 1.91% lower probability for girls and 2.24% for boys.
- The results support food environment policies as a scalable strategy to combat childhood obesity globally.
