- The study investigated whether prior anti-osteoporosis medication (AOM) use affects fracture risk in very high-risk patients starting teriparatide.
- Using data from 14,770 patients in Taiwan, no overall increase in fracture hospitalization was found with prior AOM use compared to no AOM use.
- Bisphosphonate use before teriparatide was linked to reduced risks of overall and spinal fracture hospitalizations.
- Denosumab users did not show a decreased risk, and long-term use (≥3 years) was associated with a higher risk of spinal fracture hospitalization after switching.
- The increased risk with long-term denosumab was especially notable within the first six months of transitioning to teriparatide.
