- The study examined the prescription patterns of Ninjin'yoeito, a Japanese Kampo medicine, among older adults aged 75 and above in Hachioji City, Tokyo.
- Findings showed a low prescription prevalence of 0.22% (130 out of 59,133 participants), with higher likelihood in those with certain long-term care needs or mild cognitive impairment.
- Participants with support level 1 or 2, care level 1 or 2, and independent living with mild cognitive impairment had significantly increased odds of being prescribed Ninjin'yoeito.
- Common diagnoses associated with Ninjin'yoeito prescriptions included symptoms related to food and fluid intake, malaise and fatigue, and dorsalgia.
- The study concludes that Ninjin'yoeito is generally prescribed to older adults with frailty, aligning with its approved indications in Japan.
