Google facing court for retaliation against Gaza whistleblower

Google is facing legal claims for unlawfully dismissing an AI research engineer after they raised concerns internally about Google's complicity in war crimes in Gaza.
The engineer used internal forums, emails, and flyers to question Google's provision of cloud computing services to Israel's Ministry of Defence and urged a return to a ban on AI for weapons and surveillance.
Following these activities, the engineer was dismissed in October 2025 and has brought a claim for unfair dismissal, discrimination on grounds of belief, and whistleblowing detriment.
The case highlights allegations that Google failed to comply with legal obligations to prevent genocide under international law and discriminated against the engineer for their beliefs.
In response, significant numbers of Google DeepMind employees are seeking unionisation, with a recent vote showing 98% support from CWU members at DeepMind.
