Iowa lawmakers to mandate students take Center for Intellectual Freedom classes

Iowa lawmakers passed a provision requiring University of Iowa students to complete at least six credit hours at the Center for Intellectual Freedom to graduate.
The center was created by Iowa Republicans to counter perceived liberal indoctrination on campuses, but enrollment has been low, with only eight students in one class.
Democrats oppose the mandate, arguing it will increase costs for students and families, and are urging Governor Kim Reynolds to line-item veto the provision.
The bill also requires students at Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa to take six credit hours in American History and American Government.
