- Researchers engineered synthetic proteins to create an ErbB oncogene-selective virus (ErbB-OSV) that targets cells with abnormal ErbB-family receptor tyrosine kinase signalling, such as EGFR and HER2.
- The ErbB-OSV demonstrated superior safety compared to a benchmark oncolytic virus and greater efficacy in treating ErbB2/HER2-positive ovarian cancer xenografts.
- In a syngeneic model of advanced ovarian cancer, combining ErbB-OSV with chemotherapy and B cell depletion for repeated dosing resulted in a 180% larger survival benefit than chemotherapy alone.
- Single-agent ErbB-OSV was able to cure most early-stage cases, showcasing its potential as a highly specific therapeutic for ablating metastatic tumours.
