  • CKC and LEEP are standard treatments for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and carcinoma in situ, but their long-term effectiveness in HPV clearance and preventing recurrence was uncertain.
  • A cohort study using target trial emulation compared long-term outcomes of CKC vs LEEP in women from Sweden (1997-2013) and Fujian, China (2013-2022).
  • After up to 22 years of follow-up, recurrence rates were similar in Sweden (21.2% for both), but in China, CKC had lower recurrence (0.8%) than LEEP (1.8%).
  • In adjusted analyses, CKC was associated with significantly lower risk of recurrence (HR 0.67 in Sweden, 0.41 in China) and higher HPV clearance rates at 3, 6, and 12 months.
  • The study concludes that CKC is linked to lower risk of recurrent cervical lesions and higher HPV clearance compared to LEEP in women with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia or carcinoma in situ.
