- Endometriosis (EMS) is a non-cancerous invasive condition where uterine-like tissue grows outside the uterus, found in nearly every organ.
- EMS exhibits all eight hallmarks of cancer: hyperproliferation, evasion of growth suppression, immunosurveillance evasion, enabling replicative immortality, invasion, induction of angiogenesis, resistance to apoptosis, and deregulation of cellular metabolism.
- Despite being benign, EMS behaves like cancer in promoting invasion and ectopic survival, suggesting insights from cancer research could improve understanding and management of endometriosis.
