- Starting summer 2026, Nintendo will roll out revisions with user-replaceable batteries for selected products in Europe to comply with new EU battery regulations effective mid-February 2027.
- Revised products include Joy-Con pairs (selected colors), Nintendo Switch 2 console (autumn 2026), Joy-Con 2 controllers (winter 2026), Switch 2 Pro Controller (winter 2026), N64 Controller (early 2027), and GameCube Controller (early 2027).
- Battery capacity and weight changes vary by product: Switch 2 battery is slightly smaller (5172mAh vs. 5220mAh) and heavier (411g vs. 401g); Joy-Con 2 weight increases slightly; Pro Controller battery is smaller (897mAh vs. 1070mAh) but lighter.
- Availability will be staggered across European countries, including Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, UK, and others, starting from summer 2026, with timelines subject to manufacturing and distribution factors.
- Current products sold before mid-February 2027 remain compliant; users need not take action. Battery replacement kits will be sold separately in Europe.
- Some products like Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, OLED Model, and certain controllers will not get user-replaceable batteries and will be discontinued from Nintendo Store by mid-February 2027, though retail availability may vary.
