  • High-efficacy monoclonal antibody therapies in children with multiple sclerosis (MS) may significantly reduce long-term disability accrual compared to initiating treatment in adulthood.
  • A retrospective cohort study of 277 patients from three MS registries found that those who started treatment during childhood (ages 12-17) had a 0.53-step lower increase in Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) scores by ages 23-27 than those who started as adults (ages 20-22).
  • The benefit was most pronounced in the EDSS range of 4.5-6.0, with up to a 97% reduction in the odds of further disability worsening, highlighting the importance of early intervention to preserve neurological function.
