  • The study assessed the impact of steatotic liver disease (SLD) on treatment response and prognosis in patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) receiving ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA).
  • Among 469 PBC patients, 33.7% had SLD, with 78.5% meeting MASLD criteria. Patients with SLD had lower alkaline phosphatase and higher liver stiffness at baseline.
  • No significant differences in UDCA response were found using criteria like Paris II, GLOBE, UK-PBC, deep response, or complete normalization, regardless of SLD presence.
  • SLD was not associated with an increased risk of liver-related events in univariate or multivariate analyses, even after propensity score weighting.
  • Conclusion: SLD does not adversely affect UDCA response or long-term hepatic outcomes in PBC patients, despite its high prevalence.
