- This study investigated the correlation between serum vitamin D levels and painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in type 2 diabetes patients.
- Patients with painful DPN had significantly lower serum 25(OH)D levels compared to healthy controls, non-neuropathy patients, and painless DPN patients.
- Multivariate analysis identified vitamin D deficiency as an independent factor for painful DPN.
- Vitamin D levels showed significant correlations with nerve conduction parameters (sural and peroneal amplitude) and clinical neuropathy scores (vibration threshold and Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument).
- The findings suggest that vitamin D deficiency may play a role in the pathogenesis of painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
