Very 'significant' Jack Kerouac story discovered after mafia boss auction

A previously unpublished story by Jack Kerouac, titled 'The Holy, Beat, and Crazy Next Thing', has been discovered.
The manuscript was found among the belongings of Paul Castellano, a Mafia crime boss assassinated in 1985.
Dated April 15, 1957, the story is considered a 'lost chapter' of Kerouac's 'On the Road' saga.
The two-page typewritten manuscript is signed by Kerouac in green ink.
It is believed the story was originally given to a San Francisco poet within the beat generation circle.
Kerouac scholar Dave Moore describes the discovery as 'very significant' and notes Kerouac was in London around the time the story was written.
The story appears to retell an episode from 'On the Road', featuring characters Dean Moriarty (Neal Cassady) and Marylou (LuAnne Henderson).
The manuscript was acquired by Your Own Museum from Castellano's estate sale in November 2024.
Authentication and provenance verification were conducted by Proper & Verified, confirming the manuscript's authenticity.
Your Own Museum is offering the manuscript for sale at $8,500 (£6,300).
