- Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is associated with a significantly higher risk of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) compared to psoriasis (PSO).
- The study analyzed 26,610 AS patients and 322,317 PSO patients, finding AS had higher risks for Crohn's disease (HR=3.38), ulcerative colitis (HR=2.43), and indeterminate colitis (HR=2.45).
- AS showed the highest independent risk for definite IBD (HR=4.22) compared to the general population, PsA (HR=1.52), and PSO (HR=1.37).
- Subgroup analyses confirmed consistent IBD risk elevation in AS across demographics and comorbidities.
- The study utilized propensity score matching and Cox models to adjust confounders and evaluate risk.
