- Pharmacist-led management of GLP-1 and GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonists in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) was evaluated compared to usual physician care.
- A retrospective study included 128 patients (24 pharmacist-managed, 104 usual care) from January 2019 to March 2024.
- Pharmacist-managed patients showed a 19.9% reduction in HbA1c, significantly higher than the 10.2% reduction in the usual care group (P = 0.03).
- Additional benefits in the pharmacist-managed group included better insulin de-escalation and more frequent dose titrations of GLP-1 RA and GIP/GLP-1 RA.
- The study concluded that pharmacist-led management leads to greater improvements in HbA1c compared to usual care.
