Vitamin D testing increased by 54.1% annually from 2020 to 2025, with median levels rising from 25.3 to 28.6 ng/mL.
The proportion of very high vitamin D results (>100 ng/mL) more than doubled, with hypercalcemia occurring in 4.3% of those cases where calcium data was available.
Calcifediol was documented in 91.0% of hypervitaminosis D patients with supplementation data and in 85.7% of hypercalcemic cases, often linked to short-interval dosing regimens.
The study recommends evidence-based testing, clearer intermittent-dosing instructions for vitamin D supplements, and selective calcium monitoring when vitamin D levels are greatly elevated.
