- Primary small intestinal lymphoma (PSIL) is a rare disease with insufficiently defined clinical characteristics and prognostic factors.
- A nationwide multicenter retrospective study in Japan analyzed 686 PSIL patients diagnosed between 2008 and 2017.
- B-cell lymphoma was the predominant immunophenotype (91%), with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) being the most common subtype (48%).
- Follicular lymphoma (FL) was the second most common subtype (33%) and was more common in women and involved the jejunum more frequently.
- The 5-year overall survival rate was significantly higher for B-cell lymphoma (81%) compared to T-cell lymphoma (23%).
- Age > 60 years and T-cell lymphoma were identified as independent adverse prognostic factors, while FL was a favorable predictor.
- The study highlights FL as a common subtype with a favorable prognosis among PSIL patients in Japan.
