- Down syndrome (DS) is characterized by dysmorphia and psychomotor delay, with a prevalence of 1:700 live births.
- Around 80% of newborns with DS exhibit hypotonia, the main cause of gross motor delay.
- An observational study analyzed 40 patients with DS, finding 92.5% had motor delay and only 7.5% reached milestones.
- A statistically significant difference was found between hypothyroidism and milestone achievement (p = 0.046).
- Hypothyroidism did not limit motor development in patients who reached milestones.
