Diagnosis is based on symptoms, elevated inflammation markers (ESR and CRP), and exclusion of other conditions like giant-cell arteritis.
Glucocorticoids (e.g., prednisone 12.5–25 mg daily) are the primary treatment, providing rapid relief.
Treatment duration is ideally ≤12 months, but disease course varies, and relapses are common.
For relapses, interleukin-6 receptor inhibitors or methotrexate may be used to reduce glucocorticoid exposure.
