- China had approximately 156.15 million people with CKD in 2023, a significant increase from 75.42 million in 1990.
- CKD-related deaths increased from 119.50 thousand in 1990 to 153.89 thousand in 2023, while total DALYs rose from 4.57 million to 5.10 million.
- Age-standardized mortality, YLDs, and DALYs rates for CKD declined by 52.89%, 7.94%, and 51.04% respectively from 1990 to 2023.
- Disease burden showed regional heterogeneity, with higher mortality and DALYs rates in western and southern China, among males, and the elderly aged ≥65.
- Hypertension (19.6%), type 2 diabetes mellitus (18.9%), and glomerulonephritis (10.9%) were the top causes of CKD mortality in 2023.
