  • Higher systolic blood pressure (SBP) genetic risk is independently associated with a higher risk of developing new-onset hypertension 2 to 7 years postpartum.
  • Among participants without a history of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), SBP genetic risk was significantly associated with incident hypertension, but not in those with prior HDP.
  • Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) history and elevated BMI (≥25) were more important contributors to hypertension risk than SBP genetic risk, accounting for 10.8% and 41.5% of population attributable risk, respectively, compared to 4.7% for high SBP genetic risk.
