  • MIDI instruments and modules use different types of TRS minijack connectors: Type A (standard), Type B, and TS (Type C).
  • MIDI connectors have 3 pins: Current Source (Vcc), Shield, and Current Sink (Data).
  • The 5-pin DIN connector adds pins 4 and 5 between the existing pins.
  • Pin 4 is the current source (+5V), and pin 5 is the current sink (switched with MIDI signal).
  • TRS plugs for MIDI are usually 3.5mm stereo connectors (Tip, Ring, Sleeve).
  • Type A (MIDI standard) connects MIDI 4 to Ring, MIDI 2 to Sleeve, and MIDI 5 to Tip.
  • Type B connects MIDI 4 to Tip, MIDI 2 to Sleeve, and MIDI 5 to Ring.
  • TS (Type C) uses a mono minijack, connecting MIDI 4 to Tip and MIDI 5 to Sleeve.
