Epic fined €1.1M over manipulating children through in app purchases

Epic Games, maker of Fortnite, must pay a fine of over 1.1 million euros for manipulating children into spending money in the game.
Fortnite is free but earns revenue through the sale of virtual items like outfits and dances, generating billions annually.
The court agreed with the ACM that in-game advertisements directly encouraged children to make purchases, including creating artificial scarcity.
Epic previously removed a timer showing item availability duration, for which it also received a fine.
