NixOS 25.05 Released

NixOS 25.05 “Warbler” is now publicly available.
NixOS is a Linux distribution, and its package repository Nixpkgs can also be used on other Linux systems and macOS.
This release will receive updates until 2025-12-31, while the previous release 24.11 “Vicuña” is deprecated and will stop receiving updates after 2025-06-30.
2857 contributors made this release possible with 57054 commits since the last release.
Nixpkgs added 7840 new packages, updated 28054 existing ones, and removed 1694 outdated packages.
NixOS added 137 new modules and 1930 configuration options while removing 10 outdated modules and 215 options.
GNOME 48 “Bengaluru” introduces new features like notification stacking, a new music player, and HDR support.
The default Linux kernel has been updated from 6.6 to 6.12.
LLVM updated to version 19 and GCC to version 14.
Special thanks were given to contributors, editors, the infrastructure team, and the Nixpkgs staging team.
