Steam for Mac is now a native Apple Silicon app, available as a beta update.
Previously, Steam relied on Rosetta 2, causing slower performance and a clunky experience.
The new beta version is a Universal app, offering faster launch times and smoother navigation.
Valve optimized the Chromium Embedded Framework for Apple Silicon, improving performance.
To try the beta, opt in via Steam > Settings > Interface > Beta Participation.
Apple confirmed Rosetta 2 will be deprecated, making native updates essential for future compatibility.
Rosetta 2 will remain in some form to support older games, but its future for app launchers like Steam is unclear.
