  • Large-leaf yellow tea oligosaccharides (LYP) help alleviate Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM).
  • An active oligosaccharide (ELYP) was isolated from LYP and studied for its effects on GLP-1 secretion and intestinal homeostasis.
  • ELYP consists of 1,4-linked β-GalpA and 1,4-linked β-Glcp with degrees of polymerization between 3 to 7.
  • ELYP significantly increases plasma GLP-1 levels and upregulates genes related to GLP-1 synthesis and secretion.
  • ELYP restores intestinal barrier function by enhancing tight-junction proteins and increasing goblet cell numbers.
  • ELYP enriches beneficial gut microbiota and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) composition.
  • ELYP promotes a shift of macrophages and T lymphocytes to an anti-inflammatory phenotype.
  • The study identifies ELYP as a promising natural product for T2DM management and provides insights into tea-derived oligosaccharides' mechanisms.
