- Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) had higher plasma levels of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) like oleic and palmitoleic acids compared to controls.
- Higher oleic acid was associated with RA status and waist-to-hip ratio, while gondoic acid and oleic acid correlated with disease activity (DAS28-CRP) in RA patients.
- The stearoyl-CoA desaturase-1 (SCD-1) index, indicating endogenous MUFA synthesis, was elevated in RA, suggesting a role for lipid metabolism independent of diet.
