- Fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) is a major issue for hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) survivors, but it is not well understood in this group.
- A study aimed to find the prevalence and factors linked to clinically significant FCR (csFCR) in long-term HCT survivors at a cancer center.
- Among 1,501 participants, 34% reported csFCR. Key predictors included younger age, shorter time since HCT, and a history of relapse after HCT.
- Survivors with csFCR had lower physical and psychosocial function, more anxiety before medical appointments, and greater need for psychological care, though access was reduced.
- Cancer screening rates did not differ based on csFCR. The study suggests HCT programs should add psychosocial support to address FCR and improve quality of life.
