The author tested whether Sun Chips bags labeled as 100% compostable would decompose in a home compost setup.
Two bags were tested: one exposed to direct sunlight on dry dirt, and another placed in a compost bin with grass clippings and vegetable scraps.
The bag in direct sunlight was shredded by construction machinery, not by natural decomposition.
The bag in the compost bin showed minimal degradation after 25 weeks; it appeared dirtier but remained largely intact after washing.
Under high magnification, the composted bag exhibited slight wear, such as brown spots and tiny cracks in the ink, but the material did not disintegrate as advertised.
