BYD Claims Five-Minute EV Charging with New Battery Tech

BYD has developed a new battery and charging system to reduce EV charging times significantly.
The second-generation Blade Battery and 1,500-kW FLASH Charging system enable recharging from 10% to 70% in about five minutes.
The system works efficiently even in subzero temperatures, charging from 20% to 97% in roughly 12 minutes.
The Blade Battery 2.0 improves charging speed, energy density, and safety, with a range of over 621 miles (1,000 km) under China’s CLTC test cycle.
BYD's 'FlashPass' ion transport system reduces internal resistance and heat buildup, enabling faster lithium-ion movement.
The battery passed rigorous safety tests, including nail penetration and flash charging, without thermal runaway.
BYD’s FLASH Charger features an overhead T-shaped cable system for easier plug-in access.
Over 4,200 charging stations have been installed in China, with plans to deploy 20,000 by year-end.
The Denza Z9GT will be the first European vehicle to use this technology.
