- Study assessed in-hospital and 1-year outcomes in the ESC Heart Failure (HF) III Registry.
- 10,162 patients enrolled from 220 centers in 41 countries between 2018-2020.
- 39% had acute HF (AHF), 61% had out-patient HF.
- 58% had HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), 17% HF with mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF), 25% HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF).
- In-hospital mortality was 5.1%, higher with lower ejection fraction.
- Median hospitalization duration for AHF was 9 days.
- 1-year all-cause mortality rates varied: AHF HFrEF (19 per 100 patient-years), AHF HFmrEF (22), AHF HFpEF (16), out-patient HFrEF (6.6), out-patient HFmrEF (4.0), out-patient HFpEF (3.9).
- HF re-hospitalization rates: 44% AHF HFrEF, 42% AHF HFmrEF, 36% AHF HFpEF, 21% out-patient HFrEF, 14% out-patient HFmrEF, 18% out-patient HFpEF.
- Post-AHF re-hospitalization rates were twice as high as post-out-patient visits.
