PRMT6 inhibition or deficiency reduces diabetic neuropathic pain in male mice by decreasing spinal neuroinflammation and microgliosis.
Mechanistically, PRMT6 methylates p53, reducing its transcriptional activity and p21 expression, which promotes microglial cell-cycle progression.
In female mice, PRMT6 expression does not change with diabetic neuropathic pain, and its deficiency has no significant effect on pain or microglial responses.
