- Early diagnosis of arteritis is challenging due to nonspecific symptoms and often requires invasive procedures.
- F-18 FDG PET/CT was used as a noninvasive imaging modality to diagnose small- to medium-sized arteritis in a 65-year-old man with persistent fever and muscle pain.
- The imaging revealed linear and branching tree-like patterns of hypermetabolism in the arteries of both arms and thighs.
- Intravenous prednisolone therapy was initiated, leading to resolution of fever and muscle pain.
- The case highlights the utility of F-18 FDG PET/CT in diagnosing arteritis, avoiding unnecessary procedures and inappropriate antibiotic use, and enabling treatment monitoring.
