- This randomized, open-label, phase II crossover study assessed participant preference for subcutaneous (SC) versus intravenous (IV) pembrolizumab in patients with resected melanoma, resected renal cell carcinoma, or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer.
- 147 participants were randomized to receive pembrolizumab SC 395 mg or IV 200 mg for three cycles, then crossed over to the other route for another three cycles.
- 65% of participants preferred SC pembrolizumab, with the most common reason being less time in clinic (64%). Satisfaction was higher with SC (64% very satisfied) compared to IV (54% very satisfied).
- After cycle 6, more participants chose to continue with SC pembrolizumab (68%) than IV (32%). Safety data showed lower rates of grade 3-4 treatment-related adverse events with SC (1%) versus IV (7%) during initial cycles.
- The study concludes that SC pembrolizumab improves convenience compared to IV, with a majority of participants preferring and opting to continue SC treatment.
