A retrospective study of 16,695 non-diabetic participants found metformin did not prevent seizures after brain insult.
In established epilepsy, metformin add-on reduced seizures, emergency visits, hospital admissions, falls, and injuries.
No mortality benefit was observed with metformin in the cohort.
The study suggests metformin could be repurposed for epilepsy, warranting further investigation.
