- AMD has open-sourced their GPU-IOV Module for virtualization with Instinct accelerators.
- The module supports SR-IOV based hardware virtualization in Linux with KVM hypervisor.
- Features include GPU IOV virtualization, VF configuration, GPU scheduling, hang detection, and FLR reset.
- Initially tested on Instinct MI300X hardware with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and ROCm 6.4.
- Code is available on GitHub, but upstreaming plans to the mainline Linux kernel are unclear.
- GIM/SR-IOV support may come to Radeon GPUs in the future, as per AMD's roadmap.
- An AMD engineer confirmed client GPU support is 'in the roadmap'.
