- SARS-CoV-2 infection is linked to cognitive aging, often called 'brain fog'.
- Transcriptomic analysis identified 81 up-regulated and 441 down-regulated genes in COVID-19 patients.
- Up-regulated genes were associated with pulmonary fibrosis and immune activation (e.g., IL-17 signaling).
- Down-regulated genes were linked to synaptic transmission (e.g., GABAergic synapse).
- Five aging-related hub genes were identified: SST, S100A9, SOCS3, FKBP5, and HBB.
- SST expression was reduced, while S100A9, SOCS3, FKBP5, and HBB were up-regulated.
- Seven potential therapeutic agents were identified, including fulvestrant and quercetin.
