Construction to begin on Florida expressway that will charge EVs while driving

Officials in central Florida are planning a 4.4-mile expressway (State Road 516 Lake/Orange Expressway) to connect two counties and serve as a testbed for wireless EV charging.
Construction has started on part of the expressway, with a 1.6-mile segment featuring wireless charging technology set to begin in 2026.
The project includes a 3/4-mile wireless charging lane for specially equipped vehicles, with the entire project costing $546 million and expected to finish by 2029.
Additional features include solar panels for road lights and toll equipment, wildlife protection, and a multi-use trail.
