- Study compared transcutaneous spinal cord stimulation (tSCS) plus locomotor training vs. sham-stimulation plus locomotor training in chronic spinal cord injury (SCI) patients.
- 50 participants with chronic SCI and limited walking ability were randomly assigned to either stimulation or sham groups.
- Primary outcome was walking ability (WISCI-II) at 12 weeks, with no significant difference found between groups.
- Both groups showed improvements in walking ability, maintained at 16 weeks, but tSCS did not provide additional benefits over locomotor training alone.
- Adverse events were similar across groups, with no serious adverse events reported.
- Future research suggested to explore tSCS effects in diverse SCI populations and different training combinations.
