- Non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) combined with pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) improves exercise capacity, dyspnea, and respiratory muscle strength in COPD patients.
- Meta-analysis of 17 RCTs (489 participants, mostly GOLD stage III-IV) showed significant improvements in 6-minute walk distance, shuttle walk test, oxygen uptake, and respiratory muscle pressures.
- NPPV + PR reduced blood lactate levels, BORG dyspnea score, and mMRC scale but did not significantly affect quality of life.
- NPPV is a valuable adjunct to PR for COPD patients with exercise limitations.
