- INTRAMET was a prospective phase II trial evaluating low-energy X-ray intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) following resection of brain metastases in adult patients.
- Primary endpoint local control was high at 94.3%, with a median overall survival of 43.6 months and a median follow-up of 25.7 months.
- Distant brain control was 57.1%, and leptomeningeal dissemination outside the irradiated field occurred in 8.6% of patients.
- Safety profile was acceptable, with radionecrosis in 20% (mostly low grade) and no grade 4 or 5 IORT-related toxicities observed.
- IORT may represent a feasible alternative to postoperative stereotactic radiosurgery for selected patients with brain metastases.
