- ActiveX controls are now disabled by default in Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) to enhance security.
- The previous setting allowed users to enable potentially dangerous ActiveX controls, which could be exploited by attackers.
- A notification bar appears when blocked ActiveX content is detected, with an option to learn more.
- Users can manually re-enable ActiveX via Trust Center settings, unless restricted by admin policies.
- Admins can configure ActiveX settings centrally using Group Policy Editor or Cloud Policy service.
- This update is currently available to Beta Channel users and rolling out to Current Channel (Preview) users.
- Feedback on the new security default can be submitted via the Feedback option in any Microsoft 365 app.
