  • Estrogen deficiency in pediatric Turner syndrome (TS) increases the risk of hearing loss (HL).
  • The study found that estrogen-deficient TS patients had a higher incidence of HL (56.3%) compared to estrogen-normal patients (28.2%).
  • Estrogen deficiency independently increased HL risk (HR = 2.93) and predicted abnormal DPOAE (HR = 3.98).
  • Early initiation of estrogen replacement therapy (ERT) around age 12 significantly preserved auditory function and slowed hearing deterioration.
  • The study suggests childhood estrogen deficiency is a modifiable risk factor for HL in TS patients.
