  • Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) improves outcomes after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) by reducing thromboinflammation.
  • ASA reduces infarct size, improves cardiac function, and remodeling in both pre- and intra-ischemia treatments in a murine AMI model.
  • The cardioprotective effects of ASA are dependent on platelets and neutrophils, and are mediated through CD40L pathways.
  • ASA-pretreated STEMI patients showed improved outcomes, including reduced mortality, compared to ASA-naive patients.
  • Existing ASA therapy has pleiotropic effects in reducing thromboinflammation and improving AMI outcomes, independent of preventing ischemia recurrence.
