- Switched from an iMac to a Mac mini in late 2024, using an ASUS ProArt 5K PA27JCV monitor which died after 14 months.
- ASUS warranty support requires shipping the monitor back, potential 3-4 week wait, and replacements may have dead pixels (≤5 not considered a problem).
- Replaced with an old HP ZR2440w temporarily but sought a new monitor due to dissatisfaction.
- Purchased a Dell 32 Plus 4K QD-OLED Monitor (S3225QC) from Costco for $499, initially seemed good but felt 'off' after prolonged use.
- Discovered fringing issues common to OLEDs, particularly noticeable with text and fine lines due to subpixel arrangement.
- Compared side-by-side with a Dell UltraSharp 32 4K USB-C Hub Monitor (U3223QE), LCD displayed better clarity for productivity tasks.
- OLED subpixel layout (square with uneven red, green, blue) caused color fringing on high-contrast edges, unlike LCD's vertical stripe subpixels.
- OLEDs excel in TVs and gaming due to contrast, color, and refresh rates but struggle with static content like text.
- Returned the Dell S3225QC after 4 days due to eye strain and fringing issues.
- LG announced RGB stripe OLED panels to fix fringing, but no monitors available yet; considering LCD options like Dell U3223QE or U3225QE.
