Linus Torvalds merged a pull request removing the outdated ISDN subsystem and various old network drivers from the Linux kernel.
The removal of 138,161 lines of code was prompted by AI-generated bug reports, as the obsolete hardware likely lacks active users.
Drivers for legacy hardware like 3com, AMD Lance, and amateur ham radio support were eliminated to reduce maintenance burden.
Linux 7.1 also phased out bus mouse support, Intel 486 CPU support, and support for Russia's Baikal CPUs.
