EURO6000 locomotives approved to run in Belgium and Luxembourg

  • Stadler's EURO6000 electric locomotive has been officially authorized to operate in Belgium, following its approval in Luxembourg late last year.
  • The locomotive already operates in France and is considered one of the most versatile and efficient for cross-border rail freight in Western Europe.
  • EURO6000 is the only locomotive currently operating along the North Sea–Mediterranean Corridor, a strategic freight route connecting Southern and Northern Europe.
  • Over 100 EURO6000 locomotives are in service, primarily running international freight services between France and Spain.
  • The locomotive is a multi-system electric model with 6 MW power output and six axles, capable of hauling over 2,000 tonnes on steep gradients in single-locomotive operation.
  • The approval in Belgium is expected to strengthen cross-border logistics and support the shift of freight from road to rail in Europe.
